“My partner and I were infiltrating a brothel. We had checked all of our equipment before we went in, but the process of finding the underage girl and hiring her took about two hours longer than expected. I didn’t know it at the time, but right before I captured her sale the batteries on my camera died.” - Mike, Exodus Road investigator in Malaysia
Unfortunately, this story is a common one for undercover investigators. They oftentimes will spend the time and money to investigate a suscpicious place, only to find that their covert camera fails during the mission unexpectedly, losing valuable evidence that could lead to a rescue and prosecution.
In order to effectively combat sexual slavery through the local legal systems, video evidence of the sale of an underage victim is essential to the conviction of criminals.
Unfortunately, quality covert equipment is incredibly expensive. Local governments in SouthEast Asia operate on small budgets and the private investigators and organizations in our network do not have the funds to purchase professional-grade surveillance equipment themselves. This leaves investigators in a vulnerable place with ineffective tools.
But all of this is changing, and you can be a part of it.
We are currently building a “tool shed” of high quality covert equipment– managed by our Director of Operations in Asia and available for any investigator in the network to use on an Exodus Road funded mission.
We believe that if men and women are brave enough to enter dark places for the purpose of rescue, they should be well-equipped to do so.
Consider buying, or helping to buy, a covert camera for our team. Raise funds as an office or family or group and you can be a vital part of rescuing children. Donate below:
